KidWorks Festival
Theatre Created by Kids
Broadening play space in the theater arts
Kidworks is a program where young people experiment with performance and production during a supervised time of creative play. Kids act, sing, and dance, as well as write, direct, and choreograph their own shows. During two weeks of summer camp, they pull together a festival of weekend performances for parents and friends.

Our Story
Experienced youth performers direct their own shows!
Kidworks Director Amy Cave is artistic director of Resolute Theatre Project and owner and
director of Amy’s Studio of Performing Arts. She accepts proposals from past Kidworks
performers to adapt a script, direct, and choreograph their own show. Industry experts mentor
and chaperone directors, careful to allow the space they need to collaborate and create.
Youth actors welcomed at all levels of experience!
To perform in a Kidworks play, no prior experience is necessary. During the audition process,
directors and industry mentors find the best fit for actors to grow within our program. Adult
mentors encourage directors to give the least experienced actors the same esteem and
encouragement we’ve offered them as young directors. We urge them to cast youth of all ages and
levels of experience in exciting roles.
Youth and teen directors make immense preparations for their Kidworks productions—choosing
shows, promoting auditions, and casting players. Directors prepare scripts, music, and
choreography to provide their casts with “Show Kits” for independent study and review prior to the
eight-day mandatory rehearsal week. When everyone comes together, shows are staged and
rehearsed to prepare for a festival of shows the weekend following.
Interests in technical theatre encouraged!
For young people interested in technical theatre, we provide opportunities to design lights,
sound, sets, and costumes, working collaboratively with directors and professional mentors.
“Children learn as they play. More importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”
